Spring Into Focus

Encouraging Students To Stay Focused In The Spring

With spring in full swing and summer break fast approaching, it is not always easy to stay focused on your studies. Children want to run around in the fresh air with their friends rather than sit in front of their books, teenagers and even university students feel the relaxation that comes along with the warmth of April sunrays. The beautiful weather is a welcome distraction, and there are ways to remain compassed on school while enjoying it!

Savor it

One of the best ways for a student to stay vigilant in studies while the weather is nice is to simply allow them to utilize it. Studying, working on projects, reading and experiments can be done enjoyably outside – even more so than at a desk!

It has been verified time and time again that connecting with nature is incredibly beneficial and even vital for our health [1]. Knowing this, we can absolutely feel confident in adjusting studies to be done outdoors while they are absorbing some much-needed vitamin D.

Vitamin D is heavily involved in maintaining a strong immune system and overall health but more importantly here is its role in neurodevelopment [2]. Knowing its vitality when it comes to brain health, we should be studying outdoors as often as possible!

Have Date-Oriented Visuals

Though it can be challenging in itself to stay focused on finishing out the year while students can see summer break insight, one can refocus by setting calendar dates of goals to accomplish between now and the end of the school year. Not only goals like upcoming tests and due dates but also marking off days in the calendar strictly for leisurely things as well.

Keeping their eye on upcoming days set aside for enjoyable things like friend socials, ice cream dates, hiking, going to see a movie or anything your family enjoys doing together and/or with friends, can make it that much easier and lighter to accomplish the daunting tasks by lightening and balancing out the mental load.

Check-in Regularly

When it’s that time of year when extra tips and tricks are necessary to stay on task, remember that students young and old do not always know how to ask for help when they need it.

For those students who are struggling even with the best intentions to keep them on track, this can be a great time to get them set up with a one-on-one tutor who can support them with getting through finals and upcoming diploma exams.

The most valuable benefit of having a tutor is that they tailor to the needs of the student. If a student struggles with focusing and is perhaps a little more stressed in the final stages of the school year, the right tutor will create a plan that is unique to help that student in this specific time in order to accomplish what they need to, and how to navigate around the challenges while working towards that final goal. This also allows them to take these newly learned healthy habits into the next school year as well – a win-win!

There is so much for students to get through at this time of the year, but there is also a lot of beauty in the blooming of spring. Remember to take moments (and full days!) to enjoy it with family and friends.

“Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood.”
