Parental Involvement – Keys to Success

With more and more awareness building around all the essential factors to consider for ample health and the connection between cognitive and emotional function, there is still much to be understood on a relational level in the fast-paced and competitive world that we are raising our children in today.

With the seemingly ever-increasing stress of the economy, parents want to ensure that their children are set up for success, and for academic performance to be optimized, we must stay rooted in understanding the role a parents’ emotional support plays in the grand scheme. We at EducationWise put a heavy value on each individual parental role in our students’ progress.

Johns Hopkins study was conducted discussing how essential it is to balance studies with positive life experiences. When taking this into consideration alongside the previous mentioning of how stress affects overall student success, we can prioritize our children’s needs with confidence knowing that this will not only help them at the moment, but in the long run throughout their school experience, and well into their careers. After all, what we truly want is for our children to find achievement and true meaning in the world, making an impact through the field they decide on pursuing – whatever that may be! The possibilities a student has are truly endless when they feel emotionally empowered, fueling a drive to learn and grow.

Another study found here by Dr. David Topor and others, supported by the National Institute of Mental Health, strongly indicates how essential parental involvement is in a student’s academic performance. A child or teen can have an amazing teacher, and a highly knowledgeable tutor, but for all of this to work together optimally they also need that baseline emotional support and connection from a parent and/or immediate family.

Furthermore, Parenting NI states how incredibly important it is for a growing person to have a strong parent-child relationship, saying that “A child who has a secure relationship with a parent learns to regulate emotions under stress and in difficult situations,” such as stressful testing periods, and that “a secure attachment leads to a healthy social, emotional, cognitive, and motivational development. Children also gain strong problem-solving skills when they have a positive relationship with their parents.”

Time and time again, emotional connection is proven to be a critical aspect of a student’s academic success. Therefore, EducationWise encourages dialogue and constant communication with our students’ parents. We know that for a child to succeed, the more support they have, the better!

If a student is not showing improvement through their tutoring experience, it only means that there is a missing factor to evaluate. We work hard with our students and parents to ensure that everything is taken into consideration, including a strong tutor-student connection, and ensuring that they are set up for success on all levels by creating connections with parents, and encouraging involvement throughout their child’s experience.

A happy and secure individual makes a strong and successful student!

“At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents.”
